This is a wonderful memoir of wartime childhood, vibrantly told, depicting English country life in a time which, whilst not so long ago, was so completely different to our lives today. The writer gives a clear insight into a life that is almost alien to the modern day family, an era during and after the war before all mod cons, such as indoor toilets, running water, and electricity, were available.
